Gaeltacht Scholarship Scheme

The Gaeltacht Scholarship scheme was set up by the HSE and Údarás na Gaeltachta. It is part of the HSE's commitment to providing health services in the Irish language.

The scheme is for university students from the Gaeltacht that study health related courses. The aim is to support Gaeltacht students and encourage more Irish-speaking healthcare professionals to work in their communities.

About the Gaeltacht Scholarship Scheme

The scheme helps the HSE make plans for how many staff will be needed in Gaeltacht areas. It will improve access to services for Irish-speaking communities.

The scholarship includes a €4000 each year for years 2 to 4 of their course. This helps them pay fees and other costs.

If you want to apply for the scholarship, you must be:

  • from the Gaeltacht
  • fluent in Irish
  • currently enrolled in an undergrad healthcare course

How to apply

To apply for the scholarship, email the Irish Language Development team and ask for an application form.
