Irish Maternity Indicator System (IMIS) National Report 2024

The HSE has published the 2024 National Report for the Irish Maternity Indicator System (IMIS). The IMIS tracks and measures clinical activities and trends in all 19 maternity units. This report is a key tool for monitoring outcomes and supporting ongoing improvements in the quality and safety of maternity services.

Some of the key findings from this report show that:

• ectopic pregnancies have increased
• caesarean section rates have risen
• rates of eclampsia have continued to fall since 2014
• severe perineal tears have continued to decline, reflecting improved clinical care and management
