National Care Experience Programme

The National Care Experience Programme is a joint initiative from the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA), the Health Service Executive (HSE) and the Department of Health.

Through surveys, we ask people about their experiences of care. This helps improve the quality of health and social care services in Ireland.

Why is it important

Surveys help us get feedback from the people who use our services.

The surveys show us ways to improve, based on the real experiences of hospital patients and people using other health services.

The surveys

There are currently six surveys:

  • The National Maternity experience Survey
  • The National Inpatient Experience Survey
  • The National End of Life Survey
  • The National Nursing Home Experience Survey
  • The National Maternity Bereavement Experience Survey
  • The National Mental Health Experience Survey
