Nursing Home Resident Environment Enhancement (REE) Scheme
The Nursing Home Resident Environment Enhancement (REE) Scheme aims to improve everyday life for people living in nursing homes.
The scheme supports improvements to:
- bedrooms
- bathrooms
- personal spaces
- shared areas
These changes help residents feel safe, respected and independent. They also improve privacy, social interaction and overall wellbeing.
We manage the scheme and provide funding to nursing homes. The National Treatment Purchase Fund (NTPF) manages the application process and supports the HSE with advice.
Who can apply
The scheme is open to voluntary and private nursing homes that:
- are operating and registered with the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) and the NTPF from 1 January 2026
- receive funding under the National Nursing Homes Support Scheme (NHSS) for long-term residential care
Long-term nursing homes run by the HSE, or those funded under Section 38 of the Health Act 2004, are not eligible for this scheme.
A nursing home cannot claim more than €25,000 under this scheme.
