University Hospital Kerry (UHK) acknowledges the publication today of the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) inspection report arising from its inspection undertaken in February 2026

Since the inspection, the hospital has undertaken a significant programme of improvement focused on strengthening patient care, quality, governance, safety, and operational performance. The findings of the report have provided an important opportunity for reflection, learning and improvement, and UHK has responded with a comprehensive and co-ordinated approach across all services.

Since the inspection, many of the actions identified have either been completed, or are well advanced. UHK continues to work closely with hospital staff, patients, regulatory bodies, regional services and community partners to sustain improvements and ensure the highest standards of care are delivered.

HSE South West Interim Head of Service, Olivia O'Rahilly, said:
“While the report identified areas requiring improvement, it also provided a clear framework to strengthen care and services for the people who rely on University Hospital Kerry. Since February, staff across the hospital have demonstrated exceptional commitment, professionalism, and determination in implementing improvements. I want to acknowledge and thank all teams for their dedication to ensuring patients receive safe, compassionate, and high-quality care.

“The publication of this report marks an important point in our improvement journey, but it does not reflect where the organisation is today. Significant progress has been achieved since the inspection and that work continues every day. Our staff have embraced change, worked collaboratively, and remained focused on our patients throughout. We are committed to maintaining this momentum and continuing to improve services for the communities we serve.”
