Triplets home together after dedicated care at Cavan Monaghan Hospital

Three babies born a minute apart at Cavan Monaghan Hospital have gone home together following care from teams across the hospital and weeks of preparation for their arrival.

Morgan, Madison and Junior were born shortly after midnight on 22 September 2026, at 32 weeks and three days. The triplets were discharged home on 12 October, with their mother Samantha and older sister Kayleigh delighted to welcome them home.

Throughout her pregnancy, Samantha was closely monitored through regular appointments with her consultant obstetrician and a visiting fetal medicine specialist.

Planning for the delivery began several weeks before the babies were due. Midwifery, obstetric, paediatric and theatre colleagues worked together to prepare for their arrival, supported by clinical engineering staff who ensured the necessary equipment was in place. Arrangements were also made for additional staff to attend if the babies arrived at night or over a weekend.

When Samantha was admitted to hospital on the night of 21 September, earlier than the planned delivery date, those arrangements were put into action. Additional colleagues came to the hospital to support the delivery. Morgan was born at 00:13, weighing 3 lbs 5 oz, followed by Madison at 00:14, weighing 3 lbs 11 oz, and Junior at 00:15, weighing 3 lbs 9 oz.

Mum Samantha said:

“Bringing Morgan, Madison and Junior home together was such a special moment for our family. I cannot thank the team at Cavan Monaghan Hospital enough for the care and kindness they showed us throughout my pregnancy, the babies’ arrival and our time in hospital afterwards.

“When the babies arrived earlier than planned, seeing how calmly everyone worked together was so reassuring. The staff looked after me as well as the babies, and their support meant so much during a time when there was a lot to take in.

“We will always be grateful to everyone who cared for us. Kayleigh and I were so excited to bring all three babies home.”

Dr. Murtaza Essajee lead Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Cavan Monaghan Hospital, said:

“Planning began several weeks before the babies were born and brought together colleagues from across the hospital. We had arrangements in place for an earlier-than-planned delivery, including the staff and equipment that might be needed.

“When Samantha came into hospital that night, the team put those plans into action. Colleagues worked calmly together, with everyone focused on caring for Samantha and the babies. We are delighted that all three have now gone home with their family.”

Following their birth, Morgan, Madison and Junior continued to receive care at the hospital until their discharge on 12 October.

Laura Waters, General Manager of Cavan Monaghan Hospital, said:

“I want to thank the staff of Cavan Monaghan Hospital who were involved in caring for Samantha and her babies, from those who supported her during pregnancy and prepared for the delivery to those who cared for the family in the weeks afterwards.

“This was a shared effort involving many colleagues, including staff working behind the scenes to ensure the team had the equipment and support it needed. They can take great pride in their contribution. We are delighted to join them in wishing Samantha, Kayleigh, Morgan, Madison and Junior every happiness as they settle in at home.”
