Tipperary University Hospital experiencing significantly high levels of activity (Wednesday, 28 October 2026)

Tipperary University Hospital is currently experiencing exceptionally high levels of activity, with a significant number of people presenting to the Emergency Department for care.

The hospital continues to manage sustained pressures arising from increased attendances, including patients with respiratory conditions and other serious illnesses. As a result, patients may experience significant waiting times while clinical teams prioritise those with the most urgent and critical healthcare needs.

Our hospital remains committed to providing care to everyone who attends the Emergency Department. Patients who are seriously ill or injured are assessed and treated as a priority, which means that those with less urgent conditions may face longer waits.

Members of the public are encouraged to consider all available healthcare options. If your condition is not a medical emergency, please contact your GP during normal surgery hours or the GP Out-of-Hours service in the first instance. This helps ensure that Emergency Department services remain available for those who require immediate and urgent care.

The Cashel Injury Unit is open Monday to Friday from 8am with public attendance up to 6.30 pm. The Cashel Injury Unit treats recent injuries that are:

  • not life-threatening
  • unlikely to need admission to hospital

They can help with many of the injuries people go to the emergency department (ED) for example, broken bones, dislocations, and minor burns. You can get treatment such as x-rays, plaster casts, and wound care in an injury unit.

The hospital Management would like to thank patients and their families for their patience, understanding and cooperation during this particularly busy period.
