Latest HSE Health App release: Thousands of health service appointments are now available to view on the HSE Health App

From today, more than 900,000 patients across 31 hospitals will be able to see their appointments in the HSE Health App. This makes it easier for people to keep track of their appointments and access their personal health and social care information. Maternity appointments have been available to view since the app launched in February.

The QUIT stop smoking service will also be available in the Health App. People can sign up in the app for a free, personalised Quit plan to help them stop smoking and get one-to-one support from a trained advisor.

In-person appointments are now in the app from 31 hospitals. We are working with all the remaining public hospitals across the country to enable their patients to see their appointments in the app. Telehealth appointments will be added into the app early next year.

Logging in to the latest version of the app released today people can:

  • See their hospital appointments, if they are attending one of the hospitals or clinics whose appointments are available in the app
  • see their BreastCheck screening appointments
  • find helpful information about appointments, like how to get there and where to park
  • get help to stop smoking with the Quit plan
  • sign up to get helpful week-by-week information about pregnancy if expecting a baby
  • keep a list of medicines and their allergies
  • see reimbursed medicines
  • carry digital versions of health cards, such as Medical Card and European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)
  • see COVID-19 and flu vaccine records
  • find health services.

Minister for Health, Jennifer Carroll MacNeill TD, said, ‘“I am delighted that so many more patients can now view their appointments in the HSE Health App from today. This will make it easier for them to keep track of their appointments when they download and log in to the app, and I would encourage everyone to do so.

“Work is also underway to add more appointments over time. This phased introduction of appointment notifications is the first step to enabling patients to book, reschedule or cancel certain appointments in the app. It enables us to ensure that more patients are provided with easily accessible health information that is accurate and trustworthy.’’

Damien McCallion, HSE Chief Technology and Transformation Officer, said, “Digital for Care, the digitisation of our health services, is a key programme of work aiming to significantly transform and improve the quality and safety of healthcare for people in Ireland. The evolving HSE Health App is an essential tool as we move towards a single digital health record for everyone, ensuring people are empowered partners in their healthcare journey.

“Today’s development represents significant progress in our journey to a more digital and user-friendly health service. We will continue to build on this success and will work with our voluntary hospitals, to ensure our patients, wherever they are receiving care, will have all their appointments in one app.

“In parallel we are developing the National Shared Care Record, a digital snapshot which will enable all clinicians involved in a patient’s care to access important health information. Patients will be able to access their information through the HSE Health App.

“Digital innovations, such as the HSE Health App, along with the National Shared Care Record and the National Electronic Health Record, represent a clear and ‘stepwise’ approach as we work towards the delivery of a complete patient record across our health services.”

The app has been co-designed with a wide range of people who use our services, staff, and advocacy organisations, who have been active partners throughout the process.

Future of the app

Future app features will be guided by ongoing research and engagement with patients, staff, advocacy organisations, and the public.

Future features planned for the app include:

  • Waiting list information
  • Access for expectant mothers to their full maternity chart
  • Additional self-care information and support
  • Access to additional personal health information
