Why Digital Confidence Matters in Every Role

Digital technology is now part of everyday work across health and social care. Whether supporting patients, managing services, delivering projects, or working with data, digital confidence can help staff use systems more confidently and safely.
The Digital Health Learning Passport, available to staff on HSeLanD, is a set of short, self paced modules designed to help build practical digital health skills.
Who is this for?
Cyber security is fundamental to working safely and confidently in a digital environment. The HSE Cyber Security Awareness Training equips staff with the knowledge to recognise cyber threats, mitigate risks, and take appropriate action when concerns arise. This mandatory training underpins all other digital learning and is available exclusively to HSE staff and contractors.
The Digital Health Learning Passport complements this foundation by supporting ongoing digital skills development across the wider health and social care workforce. Available to everyone working across HSE-funded and supported health and social care services, including HSE staff, partner organisations and contractors, it provides access to a wide range of learning opportunities designed to build understanding and confidence with digital health technologies.
Supporting learners at all levels, the Digital Health Learning Passport offers a range of resources to help staff develop their digital skills and capabilities.
Building skills with the Digital Health Learning Passport
The Digital Health Learning Passport includes:
- HSE Cyber Security Awareness Training (mandatory training, available to HSE staff and contractors only)
- Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare
- Data Literacy
- Digital Health Clinical Safety
- Digital Health Literacy
- Virtual Care Supported by Telehealth Technologies
- Workflows in Healthcare
Each module takes approximately one hour or less and is designed to fit around busy schedules. Staff will receive a certificate of completion for each module and, depending on eligibility, may also earn Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credits.
How digital skills support everyday work
The Digital Health Learning Passport provides practical knowledge and skills that can be applied across patient care, service delivery, and digital transformation. Whether learners are working directly with patients, supporting services or involved in change initiatives, the Passport offers learning opportunities to help staff work more confidently and effectively in an increasingly digital environment.
- Digital Health Clinical Safety explores how digital systems can affect workflows and patient outcomes, while helping staff identify and assess risk
- Virtual Care Supported by Telehealth Technologies introduces the key concepts of virtual care and the safe, effective use of telehealth technologies, with a focus on communication, digital skills, quality, and safety.
- Data Literacy provides an overview of how healthcare data moves through systems and how it should be handled safely and responsibly, supporting better decision making and reporting.
- Workflows in Healthcare provides practical techniques for mapping how people, processes, technology and data work together. This is especially useful for staff when understanding current processes or planning service changes.
- AI in Healthcare introduces the opportunities, challenges and risks associated with artificial intelligence in healthcare settings.
Together, these modules help build the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to work effectively in an increasingly digital health and social care environment, whatever the role.
