The HSE Endoscopy Programme in collaboration with the Technology and Transformation (TT) Endoscopy project team, marked a significant milestone with the successful Go-Live of the Solus Endoscopy Reporting System (ERS) at Sligo University Hospital (SUH).
This achievement represents a key step in the national standardisation of endoscopy reporting services.
Solus ERS went live for Gastroenterology on Tuesday 6 January 2026, followed by Respiratory on Wednesday 14 January 2026, supporting safer, efficient, and consistent clinical documentation for endoscopy within SUH.
Design: Requirements Gathering and Service Alignment
During the design phase, the project team worked closely with the Gastroenterology and Respiratory Clinical Groups to define national and specialty-specific requirements for Solus ERS.
This phase focused on ensuring that the solution aligned with clinical workflows, reporting standards, and service delivery needs across both specialties.
A key success factor was the active involvement of local clinical and operational staff in Sligo UH. Consultants, nursing staff, administrative teams, and clinical engineering colleagues provided valuable input through workshops, site visits, and process mapping sessions.
Their insights informed system configuration, report templates, image capture workflows, and user access models, ensuring the system reflected real-world practice while supporting national standardisation objectives.
Implementation: Collaboration and GoLive Delivery
The implementation phase centred on preparing SUH for go-live through structured readiness activities, including system configuration, user training, testing, and validation. Close collaboration between the Endoscopy Programme, Technology and Transformation, local hospital teams, and the vendor ensured a coordinated and well-managed deployment.
Go-live was delivered in a phased manner, beginning with Gastroenterology and followed by Respiratory, allowing focused support and rapid issue resolution.
The presence of engaged clinical champions and trained super users within SUH was instrumental in supporting staff during transition to the new SOLUS application, and to a successful implementation of Solus on the day of each speciality go-live.
A Step Forward in Digital Endoscopy
This milestone supports improved clinical reporting, enhanced data quality, and lays the foundation for future service improvements across the endoscopy pathway.
The project team would like to thank the clinical and operational staff at SUH and in particular Lucy Byrne and Grainne Wyer for their commitment and partnership in achieving this important milestone.
Looking ahead in 2026
- Continue rollout and expand acute hospital deployments of the National Endoscopy Reporting System (ERS) nationwide.
- Further engagement with South West and Midwest Regional Health Areas (RHAs).
- Addition of an application release version to enhance the record’s value.
