Roscommon University Hospital invites volunteers to join patient council

Roscommon University Hospital is inviting expressions of interest from members of the public to join its Patient Council, an important initiative aimed at enhancing the care experience for patients, families and caregivers.

The Patient Council works in partnership with hospital staff to identify current and future opportunities to improve services. Operating in an advisory capacity, the Council provides recommendations to help ensure the patient voice is embedded across all aspects of hospital activity and decision-making.

Anyone interested in becoming a member of the Patient Council is invited to attend an upcoming information evening. The event will take place on Tuesday, 26 May at 6pm in the Boardroom of the Residence Building on the hospital grounds. The session will provide an opportunity to learn more about the role of the Patient Council and what is involved in becoming a member.

Commenting, Hospital Manager Marie Doorly said: “The Patient Council plays a key role in helping us shape what we do and how we do it. It is a valued link with the community we serve and greatly assists our staff by providing a patient’s perspective on the services we provide.

“We are now seeking new volunteers to join the Patient Council. Members will work closely with the Hospital Management team and attend bi-monthly meetings, with a minimum of six meetings per year.

“We welcome applications from anyone interested in contributing. We are particularly keen to hear from individuals who have had direct experience of our hospital as a patient or family member and who would like to help improve the patient experience at Roscommon University Hospital.”

Anyone interested in volunteering for the Patient Council or wishing to learn more about the role is encouraged to contact Christine, Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) Co-ordinator, on 090 663 2112 or by email at pals.ruh@hse.ie.
