O365 Skills Pathway Programme - Tailored training for patient-facing staff
Skills Pathway training, co-designed with clinicians, teaches O365 use in healthcare. After a 2025 Dublin and Midlands East pilot, rollout continues.
Published: 18 February 2026
The Skills Pathway training programme is co-designed with clinical colleagues and focuses on practical applications of key O365 tools - Teams, OneDrive, Forms, Planner, and Outlook - within healthcare settings. Following a successful pilot with the HSE Dublin and Midlands East region in late 2025, the programme is now being rolled out to the other HSE regions. HSE Southwest will be the next region to have the programme delivered.
Each module aims to address common challenges faced by nursing and midwifery professionals. Sample use cases are provided by nursing teams e.g. management of staff rosters using Excel online in a Team. Other use cases include creating reports in OneDrive, moving them to Teams/SharePoint for collaborative working and understanding access and permissions. Learning to use Planner to make managing tasks easier has proved popular as well as demonstrations of Forms to gather feedback.
The goal is to build confidence in using digital tools, foster collaboration across teams, and support the HSE’s commitment to digital transformation. The initiative has also been extended to include a dedicated Health and Social Care Professionals programme, coordinated with the HSCP Regional Integration Development Leads. Feedback has been extremely positive, with over 230 attendees at the first HSCP session on January 26th last.
Mary McGrath, Regional HSCP Integration and Development Lead, Dublin and Midlands has welcomed the programme, stating:
“There are a diverse range of solutions available to support health and social care professions in being more efficient in their daily work, and having access to practical and engaging training is very welcomed.”
Training is delivered in a live Teams session at a time that works for patient-facing staff. Full support with any queries raised is provided afterwards.
The O365 Adoption team is very happy to provide tailored training programmes for other clinical staff or allied colleagues – for more information email: rosaleen.quinlan@hse.ie
