New National HSE Digital Laboratory System Rolled Out To Cavan and Monaghan Hospital

MedLIS is now live at Cavan and Monaghan Hospital delivering the benefits of a new HSE national laboratory system to patients across its catchment area, including parts of counties Meath, Longford, and Leitrim.

MedLIS is a national digital laboratory system introduced by the HSE to manage patient testing. It enables healthcare providers to book tests more efficiently and access results more quickly, supporting improved patient care and safety. Over time, MedLIS will be rolled out across all 43 HSE public hospitals across Ireland.

The key benefits of MedLIS include:

  • Reduced end-to-end times for patient test results
  • Improved quality of patient care
  • Greater ability to share work seamlessly across HSE hospital laboratories
  • Digital access to patient results across hospitals and healthcare providers

Paddy Clerkin, Integrated Health Area Manager, HSE Dublin and North-East, said: “This launch marks an important milestone in our commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. Clinicians across the hospital along with wider health care providers now have enhanced access to laboratory information for each patient on a 24/7 basis.”

Thomas Walsh, MedLIS National Programme Manager, said: “MedLIS is being rolled out to HSE public hospitals nationwide, and we are delighted that Cavan and Monaghan Hospital is now operational. This follows the previous go-live at Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, further strengthening services across the HSE Dublin and North-East region.” MedLIS supports

HSE strategic objectives by improving the accuracy of laboratory results, reducing turnaround times, and strengthening clinical decision-making.
