Respiratory services significantly enhanced in Mid West region following consultant appointment

HSE Mid West is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Hammad Danish as Consultant Respiratory Physician at University Hospital Limerick (UHL).

Prior to taking up his consultant appointment at UHL, Dr Danish completed a Clinical Fellowship in Obstructive Sleep Apnoea and Non-Invasive Ventilation at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust in the United Kingdom. His fellowship focused on the management of complex sleep-disordered breathing, non-invasive ventilation, and advanced respiratory physiology.

He initially completed Basic Specialist Training (BST) in General Internal Medicine followed by Higher Specialist Training (HST) in Respiratory Medicine in Ireland. Dr Danish commented:

“I am pleased to begin work at University Hospital Limerick and to join a dedicated team committed to delivering high-quality respiratory care across the region. I am particularly excited by the prospect of contributing to the further development of respiratory services, supporting timely diagnosis, effective treatment and delivering better patient outcomes for those living with various respiratory conditions.”

Alongside his clinical practice, Dr Danish has participated in respiratory research and quality improvement initiatives, including studies in obstructive sleep apnoea and positive airway pressure therapies.

His principal clinical interests include asthma, COPD, interstitial lung disease, lung cancer, pleural disease, obstructive sleep apnoea, non-invasive ventilation, and general respiratory medicine.

Outside of work, Dr Danish enjoys spending time with his family, fishing and following cricket.
