Shared Care Record (SCR) continues to grow with expanded datasets and nationwide rollout

The second release of the Shared Care Record took place at the end of April 2026 with the addition of 3 new datasets. The Shared Care Record now provides authorised healthcare staff with access to patients:  

• Primary Care Reimbursement Scheme (PCRS) medications. 
• GP requested laboratory results. 
• GP requested radiology results. 
• GP chronic disease management assessment, information that demonstrates a point-in-time review in the GP setting. 
• Discharge summaries. 
• HSE statutory hospital appointments.  
• Inpatient and day case waiting lists. 
• Hospital In-Patient Enquiry (HIPE) procedure details. 
• GP general referrals. 
• National Immunisation Office vaccination records. 

Who can access the Shared Care Record ? 

Access is available to authorised and trained healthcare staff who have a need to view patient information to provide care and deliver services. Access is available to HSE staff on the HEALTHIRL network who have completed a one-hour e-learning training module delivered on HSeLanD. Access requests will be expanded to other staff in the coming months. All access requests follow HSE policy and data protection laws.  

Initially, staff in the Integrated Healthcare Area Waterford Wexford (IHAWW) had access to the system. These beta users played a key role in testing the system and providing feedback, as it became part of their daily clinical workflows. SCR access is an organisational priority, and rollout continues to expand nationwide, in partnership with regional teams. 

Value of the Shared Care Record

Based on national engagements with services and feedback from the IHAWW, the system is expected to deliver value to patients, especially where care is shared across services. These include, but are not limited to, chronic disease management, community care coordination, as well as population-specific services such as the Integrated Care Programme for Older Persons (ICPOP).

It will bring increasing benefits to patients, healthcare staff and the wider health service. It will make healthcare delivery safer, more efficient and more patient-centred, while supporting staff and strengthening system resilience.  

For healthcare staff, it will enable faster, safer and more informed decision-making, as key patient information will ultimately be available when and where it is needed. For patients, it will mean less need to repeat medical history at every appointment. It will also encourage more involvement in their own health-related decisions, with easy access to their personal details through the HSE Health App.  

What’s next for the Shared Care Record?

The SCR is continuously being updated and improved based on user feedback. The information available on the system will expand over time as more healthcare data is digitised. There are 2 further data releases scheduled for 2026, and 3 per year thereafter. 

The planned releases in 2026 will expand access to the following targeted information. This is subject to agreement and may change.  

• Statutory and voluntary hospital outpatient waiting lists.  
• Voluntary and community inpatient, day-case waiting lists, as well as appointments. 
• GP specialist referrals.  
• Telehealth appointments. 
• Self-declared patient information from the HSE Health app. 
• Community appointments and waiting lists. 
• Additional laboratory results. 
• Outpatient letters. 
• T-Pro. 
• Breast Check appointments. 
• GP-sourced medication information. 
• Details of attendance, discharges and transfers as well as emergency department events. 
• Further datasets subject to agreements. 

How is it being rolled out?
