HSE South West offers free webinar on how to start your baby on solids

All parents are welcome to join HSE South West’s free monthly 90-minute webinar ‘Baby Food Made Easy’, which supports parents as they start to introduce solid food to their baby.

The workshop runs on the fourth Wednesday of every month, from 10:30am to noon and is facilitated by two CORU registered dietitians. Parents can register to join the webinar, which provides practical advice and guidance on the introduction of solid food to a baby's diet. A dietitian is available throughout the workshop to address any questions parents might have.

Fiona Rush, Senior Health Promotion Dietitian, HSE South West said:
“Every parent wants the best for their child. When introducing solid food, getting correct advice at the right time really helps to build confidence for parents, that they are providing healthy and nutritious food for their baby.
“With so much information available online and in forums, it can get very confusing. Our friendly HSE South West dietitians offer evidence-based guidance that is both useful and practical. We welcome any questions you might have during the workshop and the feedback has been hugely positive.”

The workshop covers the following topics:
• When to start solid food
• Getting you and your baby prepared for weaning
• Equipment needed
• Appropriate consistency and types of food at each stage of weaning
• When and how to introduce allergenic foods
• Gagging and choking
• Unsuitable foods for young infants
• Baby Led weaning
• Important nutrients to include in the weaning diet
• Vegetarian and vegan diets
• Useful and reliable resources and websites
