People in Mayfield and surrounding areas are being encouraged by HSE South West to take the first step towards a smoke free future by joining a 10 week Stop Smoking Programme starting this October.
The programme will run at the Kerrigan Tyrell Centre, Mayfield, from 14 October to 16 December 2026, with weekly sessions every Wednesday evening from 6.30pm-8pm.
The programme is being promoted as part of Quit Month, the HSE's national stop smoking campaign, which encourages people to focus on quitting for 28 days. Research shows that people who stay smoke-free for 28 days are much more likely to quit for good.
Marion O’Reilly, Senior Health Promotion Officer and Healthy Communities Co-Ordinator, HSE South West said:
"Quitting smoking is one of the best things you can do for your health. Whether you've tried before or this is your first attempt, this 10-week programme will support you and help you succeed. The average 20-a-day smoker can save around €7000 per year. With a packet of cigarettes tipping over €20 following the 2027 budget that saving could be more for your wallet and your health. Quit Month is the perfect time to take that first step."
