HSE South West confirm commencement of construction of Youghal Primary Care Centre (PCC)

HSE South West has today (Monday) confirmed that work has begun on the construction of the Youghal Primary Care Centre (PCC).

HSE South West has today (Monday) confirmed that work has begun on the construction of the Youghal Primary Care Centre (PCC). The new development will deliver a comprehensive range of primary care services designed to meet the health and wellbeing needs of the local community. Construction is expected to take approximately two years.

Integrated Health Area Manager for Cork North and East, Sonya Cotter said:

“The availability of bookable consulting rooms for specialist care further enhances flexibility in service delivery. Specialist outreach clinics will support the management of chronic diseases such as cardiac, respiratory, and diabetic conditions. This is especially beneficial for residents of East Cork, offering care closer to home and reducing the need for patients to travel long distances for consultations and treatment.”

Head of Service for Primary Care, Mari O’Donvan said:

“A key component of the PCC’s success will be the involvement of General Practitioners (GPs). Two GP practices will be accommodated within the centre, ensuring that general practice remains fully integrated into the multidisciplinary care model. Strong GP participation is a hallmark of effective primary care delivery and reflects both community support and confidence in the new facility.”

Assistant National Director for Capital and Estates, Daniel Clifford said:

“Accessibility is central to the design and function of the Youghal PCC. The centre’s location ensures ease of access via both public and private transport, complemented by ample onsite parking. This accessibility promotes patient engagement and attendance, especially among vulnerable groups such as older adults or individuals with mobility challenges.”

Overall, the Youghal Primary Care Centre represents a significant advancement in healthcare delivery for East Cork. It will provide a modern, accessible, and patient-focused environment that integrates both primary and specialist services within the community.
