HSE Safeguarding Team meet pharmacy customers in Clonmel on World Elderabuse Awareness Day

Recently, to mark this year’s World Elderabuse Awareness Day, the HSE Adult Safeguarding Team partnered with local pharmacies in counties Carlow, Kilkenny, Waterford, Wexford and South Tipperary to host information and drop-in stands.

The message was that every older person has a right to live a life free of any form of abuse. Visiting Mulligan’s Pharmacy in Gladstone St., Clonmel, HSE Safeguarding Team members advised that if you are an older person, or if you are worried about an older person who may be experiencing abuse, mistreatment or not being cared for adequately, there is help and support available.

Rob O’ Connor (Principal Social Worker for the HSE Adult Safeguarding Team in the Carlow-Kilkenny/Tipperary South and Waterford/Wexford area) said:

“We were delighted to partner with local pharmacies to promote World Elderabuse Awareness day this year. It enabled our team to reach out to people in the community and come to them with information and support advice.”

“I’d encourage anyone that has a worry about an older person or would like to find out more, to contact us in the HSE South East Safeguarding Team on Freephone (0818) 101 101”.
