HSE Health App wins at the Tech Excellence Awards 2025

The HSE Health App has won Public Sector Project of the Year at the 2025 Tech Excellence Awards. The app is one of the first initiatives delivered as part of Digital for Care, Ireland’s health and social care digital framework.

The digitalisation of our health services is not only a key priority for the HSE, but it is fulfilling Government policy, that will transform health services in Ireland, improve access and experiences for patients.

Initially the app included public hospital appointments for maternity services, medical cards and European Health Insurance Cards (EHIC), vaccination records, signposting to services and self-care supports, and medication lists. The app is now expanding some functionality with additional appointments available in The Rotunda Hospital, the National Maternity Hospital, and the Coombe Hospitals.  These appointment types include gynaecological, endocrinological, colposcopy, and dietetics appointments.

Welcoming the award, Bernard Gloster, CEO, HSE, said: “The award is a testament to the hard work and expertise of all the teams involved in developing and delivering the HSE Health App. The app itself represents an important step towards making personal health information available, putting each patient at the centre of their healthcare journey. It empowers people by providing a single app to manage their digital health identity, personal health information, health and social care coordination, and access to services. It continues to be an evolving piece of work with more services, data and features planned.”

Highlighting further digital healthcare developments, Damien McCallion, HSE Chief Technology and Transformation Officer said, “We are making steady inroads towards the digitalisation and integration of Ireland’s health and social care services. The HSE Health App, a major priority, is the first step. Additional digital transformation programmes such as the National Shared Care Record, and the National Electronic Health Record, represent a clear and ‘stepwise’ approach as we work towards the delivery of integrated electronic health records across the health system. Both significant pieces of work which once implemented will be transformative for patients and staff around Ireland in the future.”
