HSE Dublin and South East shaping the future of healthy ageing through partnership

Supporting older adults to age well in their communities was the focus of a recent Ageing Well Together Network event on Wednesday, 22 April 2026.

Hosted by HSE Dublin South and Wicklow Health and Wellbeing in Stillorgan, the event was well attended by community organisations, health professionals, voluntary groups, and patient partners. The event was organised to focus on how interagency collaboration can better support older adults with mental health and integrated support systems and provide a collective response to aging.

Speaking at the event, Imelda Halton, Interim Head of HSE Health & Wellbeing, HSE Dublin and South East, said: "Ageing well is a shared mission. By uniting the voice of the service user with the expertise of our statutory, community, and voluntary partners, we are building a joint response that ensures no one faces the challenges of ageing alone. Collaboration is our greatest strength."

Facilitated by Lorna Kerin, Regional Lead for Patient & Service User Engagement, HSE Dublin and South East, the event participants engaged in workshops, mapping out how services can better connect and communicate across the mental health services to ensure older adults can easily access the community supports they need.

Event organisers extended a sincere thank you to key expert speakers including Dr Leonard Douglas, Consultant Old Age Psychiatrist, St Vincent’s University Hospital (SVUH), who provided key clinical insights on mental health pathways, on the day.

Strengthening the Network

Feedback from the participants was positive with many empowered with a deeper understanding of the services and supports available for older adults in the local community. This ‘Aging Well Together Network’ will now act as a vital hub, ensuring that community needs and lived experiences remain at the heart of health policy and practice.
