HSE Dublin and Midlands supports World Maternal Mental Health Day 2026

HSE Dublin and Midlands region is supporting World Maternal Mental Health Day, taking place on 6 May 2026, to raise awareness of mental health during pregnancy and in the first year after birth.

This year’s campaign, See, Listen, Support, highlights the importance of recognising when mothers may be struggling, taking time to listen, and ensuring they feel supported in their communities and when accessing services.

Maternal mental health difficulties affect up to 1 in 4 women, and many may not always ask for help. The campaign message is clear, mothers deserve to feel seen, heard and supported.

Across Dublin and Midlands, services are working together to promote awareness, reduce stigma and ensure women can access the supports they need. Healthcare teams continue to provide compassionate, person centred care to women and families at this important time in their lives.

Speaking about the campaign, Mary O' Kelly, Integrated Healthcare Area Manager, HSE Kildare West Wicklow said, "World Maternal Mental Health Day is an important opportunity to highlight that not all struggles are visible. By seeing the signs, listening carefully, and offering support, we can make a real difference for women, babies and families across our communities."

The campaign encourages staff, partners and the public to be aware that mothers may be struggling, even if it is not obvious, to take time to listen without judgement, and to offer support and encourage access to services.

By working together across the region, we can help reduce stigma and ensure that mothers feel seen, heard and supported.
