Healthy Workplace Award for Wexford Primary Care Centre

Wexford Primary Care Centre is one of 23 workplaces nationwide to have been presented with a Healthy Workplace Award by the Department of Health.

Located on Grogan’s Rd. in the town, the Wexford Primary Care Centre opened in 2018. The 3,715 square metres building replaced the adjacent former County Clinic premises. The Wexford Primary Care Centre features a medical practice clinic, various consultation rooms, offices and treatment areas and facilitates co-location for a multidisciplinary group of health and social care professionals to deliver primary care services to the local population in that part of Co. Wexford.

Launched in 2021, Healthy Ireland’s Healthy Workplace Framework set a strategic direction for Irish workplace policies and programmes to enhance the health of workers.

Following an open call for applications and an evaluation process, the HSE’s Wexford Primary Care Centre was among those representing the public, private and voluntary sector to be selected for participation in the first phase of the programme commencing in January of 2025.

The Healthy Ireland “Healthy Workplace” was developed as a mark of distinction awarded to those that have demonstrated a particular commitment in the meantime to employee health and wellbeing. Over the last 15 months, HSE Dublin and South East staff at Wexford Primary Care Centre have participated in a measured process towards achieving the “Healthy Workplace” title.

Welcoming the Award for Wexford, Derval Howley (Head of Service/Health and Wellbeing, Waterford/Wexford area, HSE Dublin and South East) said:

“We were delighted last week to be invited to the Department of Health and be presented with our award by the Minister for Public Health, Wellbeing and the National Drugs Strategy, Jennifer Murnane O’Connor T.D.”

“This recognition celebrates HSE Dublin and South East and its Waterford/Wexford Integrated Health Area as an employer. The Healthy Workplace programme, with its focus on implementation and engagement with employee wellbeing is important to the success and sustainability of all organisations.”

“In the case of the Wexford Primary Care Centre, the Healthy Workplace programme values five key pillars of leadership, assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. It also signals an investment by the HSE in its people and a contribution to wider public health in the Wexford area.”
