Glenbow Services – OSV-0003364 welcomes publication of HIQA compliance report

The HSE has welcomed the publication of a HIQA inspection report at Glenbow Services. Glenbow is a designated centre in Sligo managed by the HSE providing a full time residential service for up to seven adults with an intellectual disability. HIQA undertook an unannounced inspection focused on safeguarding of Glenbow Services on the 11th of June 2025. The report was published on the HIQA website today, (23 September 2025).

Glenbow Centre is based on a campus setting and comprises of two bungalows located within close proximity to a town in Co. Sligo. Residents have their own bedrooms, some en-suite facilities, bathrooms, shared communal rooms and large accessible garden space. Staff are on duty both day and night to support the residents who live there.

The inspector observed that each house was clean, well maintained and suitable to meet the needs and numbers of residents. Residents had individually decorated their spacious bedrooms that had suitable arrangements for the storage of their personal property. Staff were observed to be respectful and knowledgeable in supporting residents with their non-verbal communications. Overall, the service was found to provide safe, person-centred care to residents.

During the inspection, ten regulations were inspected, six of which were fully compliant, and four were deemed to be substantially compliant relating to training and staff development, governance and management; and staffing.

In relation to training, the person in charge has ensured that all staff have completed the required mandatory training. Under governance and management the following remedial actions were taken; review of staffing and the recruitment of additional posts has commenced. A Safeguarding awareness tool is to be completed and results are to be documented monthly. All actions arising from this audit will be added to the centers QIP and closed out within a timely manner.
