Families across Kerry are invited to take part in a range of free events during National Breastfeeding Week, which takes place from now until 7 October 2026.

A variety of activities will take place across Kerry, including in Dingle, Tralee, Killarney, Castlemaine, Listowel, Kenmare, Castleisland, and Caherciveen. Events include developmental play sessions, breastfeeding support groups, family resource centre events and online webinars designed to support parents and families.

This year's theme, ‘Every Step Forward: Strengthening Support for Babies and Families’, recognises the importance of helping parents at every stage of their feeding journey. The week-long programme will also feature a series of online talks and recordings covering topics such as breastfeeding confidence, nutrition during breastfeeding, returning to work while breastfeeding, breastfeeding a child with Down syndrome, and guidance on pumping and bottle introduction.

“National Breastfeeding Week is an opportunity to celebrate parents and the services available to them across Kerry. Whether you are expecting a baby, have recently become a parent or are looking for advice and reassurance, there are welcoming opportunities to connect with local services and other parents throughout the county. Breastfeeding offers many health benefits for both babies and mothers, and we want families to know that support is available every step of the way."

Monday 5 October

• Castlemaine Family Resource Centre, V93 R273: 10am to noon, community event for parents and families.
• Killarney, Coill na Darach Community Room, V93 VXY8: 2pm to 3pm, Giddy Goats developmental play event and information on Buggy Buddies with Kerry Sports Partnership.

Tuesday 6 October

• Tralee, Shanakill Family Resource Centre, V92 PF30: 11.30am to 12.45pm, Giddy Goats developmental play event.

Wednesday 7 October

• Castleisland, Keelgorm House, V92 AY88: 10am to 11am, breastfeeding support group and family support event.
• Listowel Family Resource Centre, V31 EC62: 10.30am to 11.30am, breastfeeding support group and family support event.
• Kenmare Family Resource Centre, V93 PF96: 12 noon to 1pm, breastfeeding support group and family support event.
