Enterprise Wireless Programme 2025 at a glance - looking ahead for 2026

Enterprise Wireless provides secure, reliable wireless connectivity across healthcare facilities, with strong progress delivered across hospitals and community.

The Enterprise Wireless (WLAN) programme delivered a strong year of progress in 2025 with 160 sites now receiving Enterprise Wireless services across multiple acute hospital, primary care and community environments thus enabling wireless connectivity for staff and all public users of HSE facilities.

In early July 2025 the University Maternity Hospital Limerick (UMHL) went live with WLAN to support the implementation of the National Maternal and Newborn Clinical Management System (MN— CMS). This implementation significantly advanced the delivery of services at UMHL enabling the MN-CMS electronic health record to replace paper-based records.

A significant milestone was reached in December 2025 with the full go live of Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, including two new hospital wings. Delivering Enterprise WLAN across an entire acute hospital campus represents a major technical and operational achievement and sets a benchmark for future deployments.

Enterprise WLAN is now fully operational in the following acute hospital sites:

  • Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan
  • Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital
  • University Maternity Hospital Limerick

These hospitals can now rely on Enterprise Wireless as part of their everyday digital infrastructure, supporting staff connectivity and public access services, while we continue to work with clinicians for clinical applications and medical device connectivity.

Connolly Hospital entered its live transition phase in 2025. A phased rollout approach is in place, with five areas going live before Christmas and full implementation is expected by end of Q1 2026. Phased rollouts will continue at University Hospital Waterford and Wexford Hospital in early 2026.

Enterprise Wireless continues to support hospital growth and new capacity, as Enterprise Wireless is included as standard for new builds and refurbishments, which we saw in September 2025 in the new 96 bed unit at University Hospital Limerick, supporting staff in this new unit from day one of operations.

Enterprise WLAN is actively used across 160 live sites, with approximately 1,000 active client devices connected anytime throughout the day. Usage includes both staff and public users, confirming that the service is reliable, trusted, and embedded in daily hospital operations.

Looking ahead to 2026

Looking ahead to 2026 In 2026, the Enterprise WLAN programme will focus on scaling, optimisation, and integration:

  • Completing and expanding acute hospital deployments.
  • Delivering Enterprise Wireless to In-Patient and Community sites around the country.
  • Working with business owners and vendors of mobile clinical systems, medical devices, to integrate with Enterprise Wireless where appropriate.
  • Strengthening operational oversight through proactive monitoring and service improvement supported by management tools.
  • Future proofing the network to support increased demand, new buildings, and evolving security requirements

The Enterprise WLAN programme closed 2025 from a position of strength. Multiple community and acute hospitals are live, new facilities are enabled from opening, and the network is actively supporting staff, patients, and the public every day. All the programme success is solely down to the efforts of the Networks Teams and Capital and Estates Teams who are supporting and delivering Enterprise Wireless on the ground.
