Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown strengthens critical care with ICCA Go‑Live

The Critical Care Programme is delighted to announce that the Intellispace Critical Care and Anaesthesia (ICCA) system is now live in Connolly Hospital

The Critical Care Programme is delighted to announce that the Intellispace Critical Care and Anaesthesia (ICCA) system is now live in Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown. ICCA is a Critical Care Information System (CCiS) designed to capture and display high density clinical data, support clinical decision making, reduce administrative burden, and improve communication across multidisciplinary teams.

This highly anticipated go live took place on the 20th of April 2026. It marks the culmination of months of hard work, planning, and collaboration between the regional Dublin and North East team, local clinical and technical teams in Connolly Hospital, and our vendor, Cardiac Services. Speaking after the go live, Regional Chief Nursing and Midwifery Information Officer and Digital Health Director of Nursing, Richard Roddy said

This achievement is a testament to the dedication and teamwork of everyone involved. The collaboration between local, regional and national teams and our vendor partners has been outstanding, and we are proud to see Connolly Hospital strengthen digital capability across our critical care services.

The national Critical Care Programme Team are proud to support this key update to critical care digital infrastructure. The newly installed ICCA system replaces paper based documentation in the critical care unit in Connolly Hospital, transforming how data is collected, enhancing patient care, supporting clinical standardisation, improving data quality, and strengthening clinical decision making.

The introduction of ICCA has been a significant positive change for our unit. It streamlines documentation, improves communication across the team, and gives us a clearer, more comprehensive view of each patient’s condition.

Sabrina Bollard, Connolly CCiS Administrator

Cardiac Services is proud to partner with the Health Service Executive (HSE) on the successful go live of the Philips ICCA Clinical Information System at Connolly Hospital. This milestone reflects not only a strong collaboration at local level, but an ongoing partnership with the HSE to implement a modern, digital clinical information system across critical care units in Ireland. By enabling real time access to accurate patient data and streamlining critical care workflows, ICCA supports safer decision making for clinicians, improves efficiency for staff, and enhances the quality of care delivered to patients. We look forward to continuing this partnership as we support the HSE’s wider digital transformation of acute and critical care services.

Dermot Hughes, Head of Service and Education UK and Ireland for Cardiac Services I Uniphar Medtech

This successful implementation of ICCA in Connolly Hospital marks a key step in achieving a regional, multitenancy instance for the ICCA application in the Dublin and North East region. It is also the first site in a planned delivery of ICCA to 13 critical care units in Model 3 and Model 4 hospitals across four Health Regions nationwide. Describing this milestone,

The successful rollout of ICCA in Connolly Hospital is an important deliverable for the Critical Care IT Programme and demonstrates strong alignment and cohesive working across our implementation teams. With this foundation in place, we are well positioned for the next phase, including the deployment in Cavan General Hospital. I am incredibly grateful to everyone involved for their hard work and commitment, and I am confident this progress will deliver meaningful improvements for clinicians and patients.
