Caring Together supporting older people across Kerry

HSE South West is highlighting the Caring Together supports available to older people across Kerry, delivered in partnership with Kerry Community Healthcare Networks, the Kerry Community Work Department and Public Health Nursing.

Caring Together is run by a committed group of volunteers and staff who work in partnership with Integrated Healthcare Area (IHA) Kerry.

The ‘Caring Together Decluttering Service’ provides once off assistance for people whose home environment is affecting their health or ability to receive care. Supports include decluttering, moving larger furniture to improve mobility, and a once off deep clean.

The ‘Caring Together Repair’ Project offers minor home repairs and safety enhancements to support independent living and ensure care can be delivered safely at home. Services include installing handrails, constructing small ramps, repairing flooring, installing key lock boxes and fitting LED sensor lights.

It is a HSE referral only service, available to people over 65, or under 65 in exceptional circumstances where a HSE professional deems the support necessary. Referrals can be made by Public Health Nurses, Home Support staff, Physiotherapists or Occupational Therapists.

To date Caring Together has supported over 100 older adults in their discharge from hospital and in remaining in their homes supported by healthcare staff.
