What to expect when you apply

We aim to provide a recruitment experience that is confidential, professional, respectful, considerate, and helpful.

What you should expect from us

We are committed to providing an efficient service by:

  • giving you clear information about vacancies and the recruitment and selection process
  • responding to your queries quickly
  • giving you advanced notice for all appointments
  • offering clear and meaningful feedback when requested
  • sharing detailed interview results
  • providing reasonable accommodation when requested

We treat all applications in strict confidence, according to relevant legislation.

This includes:

  • Freedom of Information Acts, 1997
  • Data Protection Act 1988 and 2003
  • Public Services Management (Recruitment & Appointments) Act 2004

Appointment process

Appointments to positions in the HSE are made under a recruitment licence. They are subject to the code of practice published by the Commission for Public Service Appointments (CPSA). This code sets out how the principles of fairness, merit, equity, and integrity are applied during recruitment.

Complaints and reviews

Each advertised job specification and application form includes a candidate information document. This explains the HSE complaints and reviews process, along with the deadlines.

Please note that the Code of Practice does not apply to the appointment of GPs (General Practitioners) under the GMS Scheme. GPs have a contract for services and are not employees of the HSE.

What we ask of you

It is important to us that you are satisfied with our service.

To help us fulfil our commitment to you, we ask that you:

  • co-operate with us throughout the recruitment and selection process
  • provide complete and accurate information within the specified timeframes
  • keep all confirmed appointments
  • let us know as soon as possible, if you cannot attend an appointment
  • request any reasonable accommodations you may need to support you during the interview, as early as possible
  • inform the recruitment team immediately in writing if your contact details change after you have applied, including the titles of the jobs you have applied for

People who go through the recruitment process will be asked to give feedback on their experience afterwards.
