A panel may be formed as a result of this campaign for Registered Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) (Psychiatry Of Old Age) for the following area; Sligo/Leitrim, from which current and future, permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full or part-time duration may be filled.
The ANP post is within Psychiatry of Old Age Community Mental Health Team, Sligo Leitrim Mental Health Services (Sligo, Leitrim, West Cavan and South Donegal).
The team base is Liscarney House, Pearse Road, Sligo.

The organisation will identify the post specific requirements in terms of additional post registration education and /or clinical experience related to the specific RANP Psychiatry of Old Age service.
• Be registered in the Mental Health Division of NMBI (active registrar)
• Be registered r as a Registered Advanced Nurse Practitioner (on the live active registrar).
• Be educated to: Master’s Degree level (or higher). This post graduate programme must be in nursing or an area which reflects the specialist field of practice in Old Age psychiatry and the educational preparation must include a substantial clinical modular component(s) pertaining to this relevant area of specialist practice. Be a registered Nurse prescriber (RNP) of medicinal products and work safely within reviewed policy 2018.
• Must have the competence to exercise higher levels of judgement, discretion and decision making in the clinical area above that expected of the nurse working at primary practice level or of the clinical nurse specialist (CNS)
• Have the ability to link the theoretical concepts of RANP (NMBI, 2010) to practice, make complex decisions and choose from a wide range of alternatives for this client group.
• Have experience of teaching education and presentation skills
• Have knowledge, academic and working experience of participating, undertaking and utilising research and audit and disseminating findings both within nursing and multidisciplinary basis.
• Provide recent evidence of undertaking appropriate continuing professional development
• Expertise in relation to promoting the non-pharmacological management of non -cognitive symptoms in dementia (responsive behaviours in dementia)as per best practice guidelines (NDO/HSE, 2019)
• Capability development needs to move beyond discipline knowledge and understanding to reflect an integrated set of capabilities that support consolidation of learning within practice and advancement of the RANP Psychiatry of Old Age future career subject to change because of the influence of social, demographic, cultural, economic and political environments of health care.
