There is currently one specified purpose & whole-time vacancy available for a Physiotherapist, senior, Oncology in the Physiotherapy Department, Galway University Hospitals.

Galway University Hospitals (GUH) is a major academic teaching hospital with a rapidly expanding Physiotherapy Service -over 100 staff across two sites, (University Hospital Galway and Merlin Park University Hospital). GUH physiotherapy department provides a wide range of acute and rehabilitation services i.e., Critical Care, Surgical Medical, Cardiothoracics, Orthopaedics, Neurology, Stroke, Oder Persons Services, OPRAH, Oncology, Radiotherapy, CF, Rehabilitation, Paediatrics, Women’s Health, OPD, Plastics and Rheumatology.

GUH is one of 8 designated National Cancer Control Programme (NCCP) adult cancer centres nationally providing a wide range of complex cancer services to the region

The post holder will be primarily based on the UHG site providing physiotherapy and Cancer rehabilitation for Oncology, Haematology and Radiotherapy services. Cancer rehabilitation addresses the musculoskeletal, cardiopulmonary and functional impairments expected with cancer, cancer treatment, survivorship, advanced disease and end of life. The post holder will also help lead and manage the Oncology/ Radiotherapy-related Lymphoedema service in GUH.

Services are provided for weekend and on call across acute respiratory and orthopaedics

Post specific related information

• Demonstrate evidence of depth and breadth of experience of recent working in acute Oncology/Radiotherapy/Haematology services with general knowledge and experience in Cancer Rehabilitation.
• Relevant CPD in the area of physiotherapy care and Oncology/Radiotherapy/Haematology
• Training and clinical experience in Lymphoedema management
• Recent relevant experience in the management of musculoskeletal complications arising from cancer surgery and radiotherapy
• Awareness of the Health Service reform programmes
• Understanding of the relevant National Clinical Care Programmes
