The HSE West and North West health region is divided into 4 healthcare areas:

  • HSE Donegal
  • HSE Sligo Leitrim
  • HSE Mayo
  • HSE Galway Roscommon

And will manage and deliver all public health and social care services in:

  • Donegal
  • Leitrim
  • Sligo
  • West Cavan
  • Mayo
  • Galway
  • Roscommon

Almost 800,000 people are living in this region.

Hospital groups and Community Health Organisations

HSE West and North West includes all hospital and community healthcare services in the region. This includes:

  • Saolta University Health Care Group
  • Community Healthcare West
  • Community Healthcare Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Monaghan, Sligo

The Department of Population and Public Health, HSE West and North West is also now aligned with this health region.

Regional Executive Officer (REO)

Tony Canavan is the REO of HSE West and North West.

Before this role, he was CEO of the Saolta University Health Care Group from 2019 to 2024.

Tony has worked in the health services in the West for over 30 years. He has worked in the mental health services, the Department of Public Health, primary care services and acute hospital services. He was also Chief Officer of Community Healthcare West.

Executive Management Team

The new HSE health regions are setting up their Executive Management Teams (EMTs). Most managers have been appointed, and recruitment is either advanced or ongoing.

Building the HSE West and North West team

In 2024, each health region is transitioning from the previous hospital group and community healthcare organisation system. During the ongoing process, we will continue to build each team, catering to the region's unique needs.
